Our Story

Rivenleigh Border Collies is a small pedigree kennel nestled in the picturesque town of Inverleigh just outside Geelong. Our love and dedication of Border Collies has been present throughout our journey of 20 plus years. Border Collies are an incredibly intelligent, caring and fun-loving breed of dog that Aussie families have loved for generations.

Rivenleigh dogs are very much a part of our family, they are involved with all aspects of everyday life. Camping, farming and bush walking are just a few of our activities enjoyed by our fury friends. Our cascading rivers and flowing hills provide some of the best growth and
development for the dogs.

Our children also play an important role in our puppies’ neurological stimulation and development as well as giving our kids endless fun and enjoyment.

Our lines have been very important in developing the very best family members for many years and will continue to do so.

Potential owners of Rivenleigh Border Collies can be assured that bringing home a puppy from a licenced reproable breeder is the best outcome for both family and dog.

How we differ from other breeders

Our breeding partners are carefully selected for DNA compatibility, temperament, enhancement of colours as well as overall health and vitality. Our dogs are all genetically tested by OIRVET in the 14 different panel tests to ensure genetic health.

Families are involved from day 1 puppies arrive into the world. We strive ourselves on sharing the love and compassion that our family gets to enjoy. Regular family visits, photo and video updates and weekend BBQ are just some of the things we do at Rivenleigh.

Our health guarantees and after sales support is second to none and are always here to help families. Potential owners of Rivenleigh Border Collies can be assured that bringing home a puppy from a licenced reproable breeder is the best outcome for both family and dog.

Our dogs have even been given training as special therapy dogs for children in learning environments as well as trained as members of the police force.

Guardian homes

A guardian home, in the context of dog breeding, is a system where a breeder places one of their breeding dogs with a family or individual who takes care of the dog as a pet. The dog remains the property of the breeder, but it lives with the guardian family. This arrangement has a few key benefits:

  1. Health and Well-being: Dogs in guardian homes receive more individual attention and care. They lead a life as a beloved family pet, which is often healthier and happier than being in a kennel environment.

  2. Breeding Program: Breeders can expand their breeding program without the need for a large number of breeding dogs on their premises. This helps maintain a high standard of care for each dog.

  3. Genetic Diversity: It allows breeders to diversify their breeding stock, bringing in new bloodlines to reduce the risk of genetic disorders associated with inbreeding.

  4. Cost Savings: Guardians typically cover day-to-day expenses like food and healthcare, reducing the financial burden on the breeder.

  5. Retirement Plans: When the breeding dog reaches the end of their breeding career, they can retire in their guardian home, ensuring a comfortable and familiar environment for their golden years.

  6. Quality of Life for Breeding Dogs: Breeding dogs can lead a dual life as both a family pet and a breeding dog. This enriches their lives and contributes to their overall well-being.

  7. Socialization: Dogs in guardian homes often have the opportunity to socialize with other pets and people more than those in a traditional breeding kennel.

The guardian home system is an excellent way to improve the quality of life for breeding dogs while maintaining a successful breeding program. It promotes responsible breeding and offers many benefits.
